I recieved a response to my ad, on craiglist but i think its a scam.
The guy is trying to send me a “certified check” overnight, and send one of his movers to pick it up. He also is offering to pay $50 dollars more for holding it to him.
I dont really know, since that check could be fake, and of course i dont want to lose my furniture.
Is there any way that i can make sure a “certified check” has funds?
Do you think this would be a safe sale?
What would you do in my case?
Thanks for your answers!
Answer:
anytime someone states that they’re going to send you a certified check like that… is a scam….
Answer:
I would want a cashier's check from a bank, and I would want some sort of pic ID when he comes to pick up the furniture. Then you could call the bank where the cashier's check was issued to make sure it is real…
a certified check sounds a little fishy….
Answer:
YES, IT'S A SCAM, and a very common one. The check will turn out to be no good. You'll lose your furniture.
Cash or nothing, would be my rule for any Craigslist sales.
Answer:
get paid first, then send in the movers.
Otherwise, let him pay you through paypal or some other way where both will have a record of the transaction.
Answer:
This is nearly certainly a scam. You will lose your furniture. Sorry about that!
Answer:
Yes it's a scam.
Answer:
Make him send a US Postal money order
