It was my first interview and I didn't know you had to. Does this automatically mean I won't get the job?

It was just to be a campus tour guide at my college and seemed pretty laid back, by the way.

Answer:
It doesn't automatically mean you won't get the job, but it is generally seen as a negative by most interviewers.

This is because the interviewer is likely to assume that you did not research the position or the employer prior to the interview. Asking a specific question or two indicates that you took the interview seriously enough to want to know additional information. Not having a question to ask can give the impression you are just "shopping around" and are willing to take any job instead of being motivated to work at this specific position for this specific company.

From now on, always try to have at least one question ready. Then, as they answer the question, think of a second question you can ask based on something they just said. Most interviewers love to talk, and it makes them feel important to help you.

If you honestly have no questions to ask, you still want to phrase it like "you've done a great job providing me with lots of information, and you already answered the questions I had. Thank you very much!"

Answer:
No, don't worry - better not to ask a question than invent a contrived one. As long as you seem interested it is feasible that no questions need raising anyway.

Answer:
you really dont have to ask a question if you dont have one.

Answer:
You should be fine! In the future, I'd suggest just saying "I don't really have any questions because you explained everything so well!"

Answer:
That's not too much to worry about. Campus jobs are a lot more relaxed than other ones - this won't kick you out of the running.

You might take a look at the big job sites (Monster, Careerbuilder, HotJobs) they all have good interview prep stuff, including questions to ask.

Best of luck!

Answer:
You'll be fine, don't worry about it.

In the future, use one of the following standard questions:

When do you expect to make a decision?

When would you need me to start?

Could you explain the goals for this position?

Is there room for advancement in this position?

How many hours a week can I expect to work?

You'll get the job if you're friendly and presented yourself well. Not asking a question won't kill the deal.

Enjoy it when you get it!
