My company sent me an employment disclosure and authorization form so that they can do a background check on me. The form says:
A consumer report or reports will be obtained on you for employment purposes. It may include an "investigative consumer report" that includes information as to your character, general reputation and personal characteristics. Under the Fair Credit Reporting Ac, you have a right to request disclosure of the nature and scope of the report, which involves personal interviews with sources such as employers, educational or training institutions you attended, references and law enforcement agencies.
Does this mean that they will be doing a credit check as well???
Answer:
Normally a credit check is not how are you paying your bills and are they paid on time. It is a check for records of problems - garnishments, levy's, bankruptcy filings, criminal problems regarding handling money. Issues that will mean you need to be off of work to attend to or could affect your job performance. This is a standard required notice that employers must give to employees when running a background check on them, and you are entitled to receive a copy of the report that the company sends to the prospective employer as well.
