I’m thinking of moving from New England to GA or NC or TX.
I have had two careers: a legal career and a Help Desk career.
I don't like the legal career but would consider Paralegal etc.
Any ideas as to which state would be easier to find a job (GA/NC/TX). I am looking for low housing cost too. If I could get a really cheap house or condo, then maybe I could afford to work at Burger King for that matter.

I have the ability to only answer for NC, since I lived there for about 16 years.
I loved living there! For getting a job as a paralegal, I'd advocate one of the larger cities, like Raleigh or Charlotte, because finding a job should be simple, but a city like Asheville, Greensboro or Wilmington might be exactly what you are looking for. The general ambiance of these cities is more “northern”, for lack of a better term - they’re artsy, open minded and diverse - with some major businesses, but not completely over-ruled with consumerism and commercialism, and the cost of living has not yet sky-rocketed like in the more “metropolitan” cities like Raleigh and Charlotte. Also, they’ve colleges near by, (always a plus) without feeling solely like college towns. I also found real sense of community while living in Greensboro and Asheville.
I bought a townhouse in Greenbsboro about 4 years ago and paid less than 90K for it. I was able to make payments with a roommate while working less than 30 hours a week at Starbucks over the summers when I wasn't paid for being a teacher. Also, you can still rent something sizeable in the area for about $700, unlike DC where I live now.
Similarly, you could find a place to live (and work) in an even smaller city (like Fayetteville) where the rent and cost of living are still dirt cheap. Less to do, less interesting people, more military, but very cheap to live.
The great thing about NC that Texas does not have at all, and Georgia has, but not as accessibly, is the landscape!! If you live in a central city like Greensboro or Raleigh, a 3 hour drive will find you in beautiful beaches, 2 hours will find you in gorgeous mountains, an hour to Virginia, and about 2 to South Carolina. You can't really beat that.
Good luck!!!
*ANYWHERE in NC will be good for NASCAR, even the more artsy cities.
If you want to live in Charlotte, I'd recommend the downtown district, of course it will be costly, but it will be tons of fun. It's really grown over the last few years, and has become a city I wouldn't have recognized in the early 90s. North Mecklenburg county is pretty wealthy, and the NW side of the county is safer, richer and more pricey to live than the rest of the area. Staying on the Northern side of the county is a superior idea, though, because the Southern side tends to be a little bit less safe, albeit less expensive. My brother lives there now, I have the ability to ask him for more details about where he would recommend. ![]()
