Would i have to get an ASN degree before i become an RN or can i go directly into an RN program? at a 4 yr university?
Answer:
You can get a four year degree straight out of college. You don't have to waste time with an associates degree beforehand. I would advise that you take a lot of science courses in high school, as well as a few advanced maths, along with the rest of your classes, and then after graduation, apply to a four year program. If you want a four year degree, then don't listen to anyone that tells you that you need a two year before you get your four year. They don't know what they are talking about.
Answer:
3 Paths to RN:
Associates Degree Nurse (ADN): 2-3 years of classes and clinicals.
Diploma Nurse: Light academics heavy clinicals. These programs take up to 3 years and are held at hospital run schools of nursing. You will spend A LOT of time in clinical.
Bachelors Degree Nurse: 4 years of academic study and clinical courses.
All of these paths lead to RN licensure eligibility in the US.
