Im 17 and im a cleaner. It pays good (£6.37 an hour) but its really humiliating that I’ve to clean!
Answer:
You’ve a job! What could be embarrassing about that?
Embarrassing is to sit at home all day watching Jeremy Kyle and Massive Brother pumping out screaming brat after screaming brat and anticipating everyone else to pay for your Tennents Extra, kebabs, plasma Television etc.
Also, you’re only 17 years old. You’ve no idea what you’ll be in the future.
Answer:
I'm also a cleaner, i kind of understand what you’re saying but I get paid £8 per hour for doing something that takes tiny time out of my day, fits in with my kids and pays a lot more than the average wage, good on you for not sitting back and claiming benefits, you go girl, I for one am impressed with you. maybe if others had your attitude the country wouldn't be the way it is. Be proud.
Answer:
I’ve a friend, who while a single mum and in college started doing a few cleaning jobs on a saturday to help make ends meet. That was over 10 years ago and when we met up for a weekend away recently she told me she had never given them up, even tough for the last 8/9 years she has being in a great office job within a very desirable industry. She puts the cash in the bank each single week and has done so for 10 years and because of this is one of the most financially stable people I know. Now thats a very clever girl.
My point is this - by not giving a s**t about embarrassment she’s probably more financially secure than the people she cleans for.
Answer:
There's no need to be embarrassed. I have the ability to sort of understand why you feel the way you do, because society has taught us to look down on certain kinds of work. However, you should be proud of yourself, because you're doing good, honest work and you're not living off the system. Also, you don't have to do it forever. If you’ve any ambition, you can also set goals to reach what you really want.
