is a thank you letter and a follow up phone call expected from a person you’ve interviewed
Answer:
Nope, it's certainly not expected, and actually I don't advocate that you do it. It doesn't really injured to do it, but I just don't think there's any point. It isn't going to influence the outcome of your application.
I would say that if you've attended an interview and they don't come back to you within three or four days, or they've specified a timeframe when you'll hear back but you don't hear from them, then it's certainly okay to give them a call to follow up - but it's not a thank you, it's more just enquiring about the status and when you can expect to hear something.
I assume that you thanked them when leaving the interview, and that's all that's required.
Answer:
I would say a thank you letter, not the phone call. The phone calls can get to be too much of a bother.
