I have a BA in psych and currently work for the county. I haven’t really used my degree and that’s okay because I like my job. I get good benefits, have some sense of job security, am contributing toward retirement, have low job stress, but don’t make all that much. I’m sure I’ll get pay increases as time goes on, but I’m definitely not wealthy nor will I ever be. I have the ability to pay the bills and have some left over to have a good time on the weekends.

However, the idea of law school was brought up and it seems like a good idea. However, I’d have to take out more loans on top of the ones I’ve and quit my job. I just don’t know if it’s worth it. However, I also know that lawyers make a lot more but I don’t know if it’s worth it to go to school and leave my job.

I’d like to know what your thought is. I realize I do need another skill just to have job wise, but should I go back to school to find something that pays more or stay where I’m content? I’m so confused. In the end, money doesn’t matter all that much to me, but then again, I realize it does pay the bills and is what allows me to purchase what I want…

I think salary is very important! It is also very important to like your job! After all, you spend most of your daylight hours there, if you’re unhappy it's not worth it. If being a lawyer is what you want to do, go for it, you only live once! I also think you should check out www.bls.gov/oco. It has lots of info on careers including earnings, education required and job growth. Follow your dreams, good luck!

I thinking nursing in a Psych ward is what you should do, you can take nursing courses on line or at a junior college. They get decent pay and much in demand these days. With the econly as bad as it is, there will always be sick people.

You seem to be quite intelligent, you should try working for yourself making some money on the internet.

If you posess a degree - or any other qualification - then you'll already be in front of of the crowd when it comes to looking for jobs. My friend has a degree and he wasn't certain what direction to go with it, eventually he went in a absolutely different direction, he earns his keep using his pc with SMC which is a company sponsored by Tom Boswell of Happy Days (Howard Cunningham). Check it out in the box below.

First, congratulations for wanting to improve your situation. Change it now so you don’t regret later in life when you neither have the time nor the energy to go back to school. I think you should go ahead and go to law school. It is definitely worth it because a law degree from a top university is financially rewarding (Look at the Obamas??). As for the cost, think of ways to cut down that cost. Will the county pay for some of the fees? If not, get a job that’ll have a significant tuition reimbursement benefit.
Don’t kid yourself that money does not matter…You never know what life holds in store for you in the future but having money certainly helps!! God forbid that you live at the mercy of government assistance!
