I have a partime job that I have been work for about over a year. I work less than 25hrs. A week. Is there a way for me to collect any sort of unemployment?? If so what’s the process, is it the same as applying for full unemployment? Any info in regards to this will be. Very helpful. Thanks!!
Answer:
My mother used to work for a state unemployment office. First off, unemployment laws vary a little bit by say in which you reside. Second, you must be laid off from your job; you departure from employment can't be voluntary (quitting). Next, if you make yourself unemployable, then you also don’t qualify for unemployment. An example of this is you’re a truck driver and get a DUI or two. Your company can no longer insure you in this case and therefore they have no choice but to fire you. Many times companies try to take advantage of these provisions and contest. If none of the above applies to you, then there is nothing stopping you from applying. Unemployment (where my mother worked) depended on salary, number of dependents etc (it was a rather complex formula from what I understand). Finally, if you receive unemployment, you must be actively looking for work while on the program. If you don't do that, the program kick you off.
