I am trying to leave Sacramento, Ca and go to Boise Idaho 1 way, but i do not have a major credit card and I asked all my friends all we got is bank cards and pre paid visa cards. how come they dont accept those? i got 600 in cash for a 1 day rental and they wont let me pay cash. this is bull. is there anyplace that will let you pay with cash or a bank card or prepaid visa?

Answer:
Enterprise rent a car will do it if they can be assured that you will return the car… Now they do this by verifying your job, home address, etc. Hopefully you already have a place to stay and a job in Idaho. Believe it or not, people steal their cars, so they have to make sure you are a responsilble citizen… good luck to you.

Answer:
You're pretty much out of luck. A few rental agencies used to rent with LARGE cash deposits ($1500 ) but may not anymore. You need a credit card. And if you're under 25, most won't rent to you anyway.

Answer:
I have the same issue. If you book through hotwire.com you can use a any form of credit card or even pay with paypal. When you pick up the rental they will ask for a credit card, since you have already pre-booked with hotwire.com you can use a debit card or anyother card that has a visa, mastercard, or american express logo. They won't charge anything, they just want to have some form of payment on file incase you keep the car for longer than expected. I know this is 100% correct because I have just recently done this.

Oh, and if you pick up your rental on Thursday and return it on monday you can get the rentals as low as $13.00 a day. If you need it longer just call the day it is due to extend the rental period so that you can still keep the same price per day.

Hope this helps

Answer:
Because if you wreck/total the rental car, they want the ability to charge up to the maximum amount of your available credit balance to pay for the damages….I think if you tell them that you will also buy their (expensive) collision damage waiver, I think that might cut you a deal….There are only looking for ways to minimize their risk if the car is wrecked….By purchasing the collision damage waiver I think they might be amenable to letting you use the debt card….Of course this will cost $$$ to buy this…

Answer:
Enterprise has always been great for booking without using a major credit card. When you use a debit card with a Visa/Mastercard logo, they charge the full amount of the rental to your debit card as well as a $100 deposit. When you bring the car back in good condition, you get the deposit back. We have never had to buy their insurance to do this.

Be prepared that you have to bring a utility bill, pay stubs and references with you to do it this way.

Answer:
This is what the rental car companies that partner with Hotwire say about debit cards:

Hertz: At most Hertz locations, debit cards (sometimes called check cards) issued under a VISA or Mastercard logo which draw funds directly from the cardholder's account may be used to qualify for rental. However, prepaid or stored value cards which have a VISA or Mastercard logo are not accepted to qualify for rental. Debit cards must have available funds for the estimated amount of the rental charges plus a reasonable amount to cover any incidental charges in order to secure the rental. Both debit cards and prepaid or stored value cards issued under a VISA or Mastercard logo may be used as a form of payment when you return the vehicle. Please contact your local Hertz Reservations Office if you have a question about whether Hertz will accept a certain card.

Avis: Avis accepts most major credit cards as credit identification at the time of rental. Some locations may not accept each of the referenced charge cards.

Most US locations also accept bank debit cards with the Visa or MasterCard logo as credit identification at the time of rental if you are at least 25 years of age. Canada locations do not accept bank debit cards as a form of credit identification.

Budget: At some locations, debit and pre-paid charge cards are not accepted at time of rental but are accepted for payment at time of car return. While our corporate-owned locations accept the following major credit cards, please note that acceptance of these credit cards may vary at locations outside of the U.S. and at our licensee-owned locations: American Express, Budget Charge Card, Budget International, Carte Blanche, Diners Club, Discover, JCB/Japan Card, MasterCard, Optima, PHH, Visa, Tour Wholesaler, Cash Prepayment ID Card, U.S. Government cash deposit.

National: When renting in the U.S., debit and check cards may only be used in conjunction with proof of a round trip travel ticket (airline, cruise ship or train) at time of rental.

A debit/check card is considered to be any non-credit card bearing the VISA, MasterCard or Discover Card logo

Enterprise:

Question:

Can I use my debit card to rent the car?

Answer :

Some of our Enterprise locations will accept a debit card for the rental deposits and payments. Please contact the office you plan to rent from to determine their policies on renting with a debit card.

All these were taken DIRECTLY from the FAQ's of the website which I provided links to below.

One of the posters may have claimed to have done this before, but I would still be cautious. I posted the information so that you can see for yourself.

good luck, and be safe

Answer:
Why car? You could try a plane or train! Good luck and have a safe trip up here to Boise, looks like you got some good answers here.
