I'm looking into obtaining a prepaid credit card. I didn't really know much about them before, but after researching for a few hours on the internet I learned about just how pricey those things can be to maintain.
I noticed that there are a lot of hidden fees and charges which is very disappointing. A lot of cards claim that there’s “no monthly fee”, however that seems to be only true if you're planning on doing direct diposit (which I do not want to do).
Does anyone know which prepaid credit card has the lowest fees? Which is the ideal to get? I really don't want to have to pay a massive monthly fee along with the unavoidable convenience fees. Any card that has very low monthly and convenience fees, without major restrictions?
Answer:
Is it possible to get yourself a bank account? (I know that some people aren't able to do that.) It's just that the fees are ridiculous with the prepaid cards. I haven't seen a prepaid card that doesn't charge you a million fees. Try a check cashing or cash advance fee place. I believe that they sometimes have deal on the initial fees involved in setting the card up. Depending on what you'll be using it for, you could just go for a visa “gift card”. There usually isn't a start-up fee, but the card is not reloadable.
