I've been getting a lot of emails lately claiming that there has been “irregular activity” on my account, and I needed to email back to give my account information, such as the number, etc., and saying my account would be closed unless I did this.
At first, I just ignored them because they were “companies” I never heard of. But today, I got the same type of email from a company claiming to be my actual credit card company. They needed my card #, verification code, expiration date. They are threatening to shut my account if I don't give them the info. But if they’ve that info, why would I need to verify? Do you think this is a scam?
Answer:
never respond to emails asking you to verify any information, instead call the Credit Card company and talk to them on your phone. don't use a cell phone to give out personal information either, cell phone are not secure lines, your call can be picked up by other electronic devices and you identity can be stolen.
SCAM don't reply.
Answer:
It most definitely a scam. You are right. They already have that info, so why would they be asking you for it?
If you gave them the information they asked for, you'd be bankrupt by 8:00 am the next morning, your bank account would be at $0 and your credit cards would be maxed out. That verification code (CCV) tells the merchant that you’ve actual possession of the card. You would be held responsible for ALL CHARGES (no $50 limit) because you gave out the necessary information.
Answer:
It is still a scam…. Don't answer it and never give out your financial info via E-mail.
Simply call your credit card company. The phone number is on the back of your card and ask them whether everything is ok with your account. You can tell them about the E-mail…. and I can guarantee you that it didn't come from them and that it is a scam.
Neither your bank nor your credit card company will ever send you an E-mail and ask you to click on a link and type in your credit card info, etc…. They already have that info… and they don't use the e-mail to communicate with you. They call or send a letter.
Answer:
It is definitely a scam. Such emails are so easy to fake. Your bank would never send you such an email and never asks for your sensitive and personal information in an email. They’ve no need to verify your information. If you are concerned, CALL THE BANK, don’t respond to the email, because the email could be from anyone at all.
Answer:
THOSE are SCAMS
If the info was true they call you at home and ask you to call them.
They would NEVER ask for that info to be sent by an email.
SCAM
If in doubt call them (and not to a number on the email)
Answer:
nobody … i mean NOBODY… ever solicits personal information through email without you soliciting info first.
i would call your company and inform them of this situation.
Answer:
I know it's a scam. Call the 800 number on the back of your card and speak to a customer service rep directly.
