What if you aren't home when something is delivered?

What determines if they leave the package outside your door or if they leave a note saying you can pick it up at the closest PO?

sometimes they leave it at the nearest PO, but not all mailing companies do that.
That happen to me once, but I call the main office and they told me that my package was brought back to the main warehouse and if wanted i could pick it up there, or wait a few days (2 days) for them to delever it.

The sender can choose whether it can be left at your door or not. If the sender doesn't give them permission to do so, they can't just leave it.
