My bank, Fifth Third, accidentally credited my account for an extra $35 in March. I never noticed this because I had a dispute for $35 and I have a small ebay business so I always have smaller deposits coming in. I lost my job and finally found another, but I have been literally barely getting by for about 2 months. I haven't paid any bills and have just been buying necessities. I finally got a job and am very excited to get my first paycheck. Anyway, my bank reversed this “error” that was unknown to me today without my knowledge. No letter, no phone call. I called to ask what had happened because their reversal overdrew my account when it added up with my other purchases. I had left myself $30 to last until my next paycheck which arrives next Tuesday. Not much, but I'd live. Now they’ve charged me $240 in overdraft fees because of this reversal. They’re refusing to repair this and totally devestating me. I have nothing. What can I do?
Answer:
There's nothing you can do. You will find, if you read the small print on the papers you signed when you opened your account, that your bank is within its rights at every turn.
I know this is horrible. You’ve to pay close attention to each and each charge and credit on your account so this doesn't happen in the future. Banks are not our friends.
Answer:
Although the $35 was in dispute, you shouldn't have spent that money in the first place.. cuz it can ultimately turn into a chargeback.. which was what happened.
I would explain to them that you've never had this happen to you before and see if they have the ability to work with you. Other than that.. that's all you can do. That's all you can do. Good luck.

Why is it the bank's fault that you failed to review your account statement and notice the error? They parked an extra $35 in your account, then removed it. They never improperly took any of “your” money.
