I was offered a job position in UK. The offer is 60K pounds a year. My wife will stay home taking care of my 5 years old son. Can we live on that amount of money?
Whay would my tax cut be?
Do I get any tax cut for my son?
Thank you all
Answer:
Many bigger familes live on much less, the UK is a very expensive place if its $1000 anticipate to pay £1000 but if your income is $100,000 expect that the same job pays £25,000 in the UK plus housing is more expensive than US/ mainland Europe as the UK is very crowded (60 million on something 30% size of france).
The average wage for a family in the UK with both parents working is approx £50k.
The real question is will this give you the standard of living you want and that depends where you want to live and wether your company provides your living accom and automobile.
You’ve the first £5k tax free then taxed at 20% for first 36-6K then 40% for rest. Plus you’ll have to pay national insurance of either 9 or 11% on every thing between £90 and £770 per week.
you MAY get a child allowance (£18 per week) for your child(depending on its nationality/place of birth) but no tax breaks as you'll be well over the upper level for Tax credits which is 28K.
If you want to live in Luxury in the UK on that figure not much hope but you can have a basic 3 or 4 bed home and live basically if paying it all yourself. or much superior if employer provides housing and car.
if you get these from your employer your TAX will rise though but by only 40% of the amount they give you!
Answer:
When the average wage is alleged to be £26.000 a year, to state can you live on £60.000, will be a lot easier than 80% of the working population. You’ll get child allowance of I believe £19.50 a week, and your tax will be at an increasing rate over and above certain amounts earned. These can be checked on the Inland Revenue site.
Most people here would give their eye teeth just to earn the average, but are expected to live on a lot, lot less. You don't state what type of life style you lead, but even with £60,000 the cost's in the UK will probably be higher than you imagined.
Answer:
I would like to know where in the world you could earn that sort of money? £60k a year!
You would need to be a top professional, doctor dentist etc etc.
OK forget that , here is my answer.
I reckon £60k a year would mean a clear pick up of around £1400 a month after tax National Insurance etc.
The simple answer to your question is yescyou can all live very comfortable on that money.
Answer:
you need to look into this in a lot of detail, you’ll be on a high tax band (40%), depends on you cost of living etc. coul you wife maybe get a part time job when your child is at school if you need a bit more cash.
60k is an excellent salary, many families of 4 etc are living on a joint salary of £35-45k
Answer:
You'd probably manage ok, but it's not a lot - won;t have an astounding lifestyle, but it will be comfortable enough
Budding author (below) WHAT planet are you on? or what century are you in? £60k a year, I'm in my mid 20s and most of my mates earn more than that, believe it or not, some earn 3-4m a year working in the City (London) … 60k a year isn’t a lot anymore my good man
Answer:
60k a year? no problem living on that. Some people over here get about 12k a year before tax, you’ll not have any problem living on that! Even though it depends what kind of lifestyle you lead!
You will be in the 40% tax bracket so you will paying 40% tax over the 40k. I'm not sure how you work it out though sorry.
Answer:
Your annual tax liability on £60k would be £14,626 and National Insurance would be £6000. Don't forget that healthcare is free here. £60k would be considered a very good salary - it's what MP's earn.
There is not tax relief for wives or kids.
Answer:
You'll be fine. Think about where you might be living, though. Some areas are high-priced for housing.

And where it's high-priced for housing, it could be high-priced for other each day things too.
Answer:
We pay 40% tax on income over £36k so if your wife can be paid any part of your salary it would be in the lower tax band.
60k is good for the majority, even though renting, esp. London takes a surprising chunk.
