I'm 16 and I'm starting a web design business in Virginia. What’s the legal way to pick and register my business name and logo? Also, please give me tips on any other legal matters I should look into.
Answer:
You don't really have to worry about any rules at your age. Just open your company. You can pay $10 at the Secretary of State Office to purchase a trade name. You can check the www.uspto.gov about trademarks and logos.
It is legal for you in Virginia to sign contracts. The problem is that it is also legal for you to “void” any contract at any time prior to turning 18. WHich makes it difficult for anyone to enter into contracts with your business. So keep things cash-and-carry for 2 years until you’re older. Do not enter into long-term contracts with your customers.
Pay the IRS in full every year on your earnings.
Answer:
where I live you need a permit to sale things for tax purposes and that requires someone who is 18 years of age (tax i.d)…as far as logos…you may want to get it copyrighted but that costs money…just do some research on the internet and you’ll find tons of info.
