Does anyone know a way to talk to a LIVE person at the IRS? I was anticipating over $5000 refund, and ended up with $381. Used H&R Block on the web to do taxes, and looked for mistakes in data entry…NONE! The IRS approved my return…then I was SHOCKED to find $381 direct deposited instead of the approved $5000!
I’ve called 1-800-829-1040…CANNOT get a real live person!! Tried H&R Block…they don't have any idea!!
I didn’t receive any letter or anything from the IRS explaining the descrepancy!!!
Anyone got ideas??
Answer:
expect a letter in about 2 weeks — the refunds are frequently faster than the letters telling why they adjusted your return.
and, no — there effectively is no way to speak to a live person at IRS about this. for one thing, no one there knows squat about any specific person's return for 2008.
Answer:
call 1800 829 1040 … press 2 and then 2 again… type in your ssn… press 1 to confirm that you entered a ssn and 1 to confirm that you entered the right ssn… then listen to all the prompts and DO NOT choose one. when you get to the end of the list (there are 7 items I think) just wait for a person. usually takes about 30 minutes.
the other way to get a person is to click the button that states “pay your account” they answer real swift if you pick that one.
Also there's a tax advocacy number on IRS.gov
Answer:
Check the IRS website's “Where's My Refund?” It gives information about delays and “corrections” to expected refunds.
Also, it has been my expierence that people get their say and Federal refunds confused, so, make sure you're not doing the same.
Remember that if you owed back taxes, child support or student loans, they would take your money, but you'll receive a letter explaining what they did.
Answer:
my husband has been able to get a live body in the past but i'm not sure if that’s the phone number he used.we’d problems with using hr block so i wouldn't be surprised if the error is linked back to them.
try this number 1-800-908-4490. it's supposed to be for identity theft but it states that they’ve live assistance so maybe they can transfer you to the correct branch.when we have had things amended we usually had a letter before the money so don't quit till you get answers….good luck
Answer:
The IRS does have satellite offices with real people.
Answer:
Do you owe taxes from previous years? Do you owe unpaid federal student loans? Do you owe child support?
Answer:
H&R Block did your return, H&R Block addresses the problem. Lean on them.
