We put our child in daycare for the first time in 2006 and I'd like to claim the child and dependent care credit.

I'm entering information into H&R Block's website, which can be difficult when you don't see WHY the site calculated the credit.

The credit is currently showing $0, although we spent over $3000 and didn't use a FSA. This is probably a stupid question, but is it calculating $0 because I don't yet have my husband's W2 yet? So the program is figuring we can't claim it since it looks like my husband wasn't working? Or is there some sort of income limit where you can't take the credit? Filing MFJ, by the way.

Thanks!!

Answer:
I paid 2770 in dare care this past year, I used turbo tax. My total child care credit came to $0 also. I don't know why neither. It makes no sense to me Oh well.

Answer:
This is exactly why we went to TurboTax…

You have time…. Don't use H&R Block… that's step-1/

Answer:
your best bet is to go to the H$R block office and have them do it so they can explain it all to you in detail

Answer:
I hate to tell you this but using anything by H & R Block is your first error. Depending upon what tax bracket you fall in, it may behoove you to seek out a professional private CPA firm..spend the money it is worth it in the long run!!!. I am self employed, my hubby is W2, we fall well above the 6 figure range combined. Eight years ago I was naive enough to go to H & R and they said we owed over $7k….I found a retired IRS auditor, that is now a private CPA, that revised that years taxes and has been doing ours since. H & R, although well known are NOT the tax professionals they claim to be.

Another example, my sister and brother in law were in the same situation, I sent them to my CPA and he ammended up to 3 years previous taxes and got them out of repaying delinquent taxes to the IRS and received a refund…..
