would i be able to get it back?
and i also looking for a new part time job would i get taxed heavily as well if i hand in my p45?
Answer:
I think your first port of call is your wages office to find out why tax was deducted when you completed form P38S. There is no reason why employer cannot make refund to you, unless form P45 already issued.
What code number was employer using? If it was 522L, with M1, W1, or an X after it, he was operating a week 1 code, and your pay and tax will not be shown on parts 2&3 of form P45. Therefore a new employer cannot refund. If a cumulative code 522L is being used, new employer can make refund, but will not know about form P38S. This form is only appropriate to students working at vacation times.
If your part-time work is regular, form P38S will not apply, you will be treated as a normal employee, albeit under the tax free limit.
If it is more than a month since you worked, you can download form P50 from hmrc/p50/uk, send it to tax office shown on form P45 with form P45, and tax office will make refund. Complete part 1 of form P50. To save time, and avoid tax office coming back to you, tell them what you were doing from 06/04/08 until now, including periods of full-time education. You can't do form P50 once you start working again.
Answer:
When you start your new job, you will be taxed accordingly.
As long as you don't earn more than your allowance, you should get a refund.of the tax you have already paid. This will normally come in your pay packet.
Your allowance for 2007/2008 will probably be £5,225. You earn that amount tax free. When you first start a job, you are often taxed on all of your earnings whilst they sort out what you should be paying.
